Rollapaluza bring Muddy Hell to London

Rollapaluza bring Muddy Hell to London

Following events such as Socal’s Spooky Cross and Norcal’s Surf City Psychocross, our friends across the pond in London are getting ready for the summer Olympics by putting on Halloween cyclocross with their new “Muddy Hell” event.  The new race ups the ante on Halloween cyclocross, we’re told the Olympic warm-up event promises to be almost as big as the Summer Games. Only the events are different. Muddy Hell will feature apple bobbing,  roller racing, “fancy dresses,” a bar tent, a full moon and 1000 British pounds up for grabs.

Jealous? The promoters are offering to take their event on the road via a franchise program. Full details below.

Rollapaluza takes the unique atmosphere of their famous roller races to the mud and darkness of night-time cyclocross.

Inspired by Belgian cyclocross races, this will be a joint promotion between members of Rollapaluza and VCL cycling clubs who have been planning this event for some time. Luckily Halloween falls on a Saturday this year and to add to the atmosphere (and hopefully visibilty) a full moon is due.

Rollapaluza events are well known for their appeal to a broad spectrum of cyclists as well as spectators and they’re hoping for the same at this event so will be having a special “Go Race” event for novice cross or MTB riders, single speed mountain bikers and fixed wheel riders as well as free entry to those who just want to watch the action and soak up the atmosphere.

Racing kicks off just after sunset with the youth categories, the more adult-oriented action takes place later as the night darkens…. and yes they are planning on running the course right through the bar tent!

Tour de Ville Signs as Sponsor

Tour de Ville signs as Sponsor

Despite the fun element and fancy dress, serious riders are expected to enter the main race due to the huge cash prizes offered by event sponsor Tour de Ville. Proprietor (and former Dutch Junior champion) Jos Van Veldhoven is enthusiastic about his involvement in the race as he raced cross regularly in his youth (there’s even talk of one or two of his Dutch racing pals making the journey to Herne Hill for the event). However Jos now imports the finest vintage steel and continental classic bikes, frames and components to his amazing shop in East London, it’s a real Aladdins’s cave of cycling treasures and has to be seen to be believed.
