With the news that Lars Boom (Astana) is thinking of making a return to cyclocross to ride for Sven Nys’ Telenet-Fidea squad we got to thinking about Boom the cyclocross racer and quickly found ourselves watching hours of Boom taking on the most iconic courses in the sport.

So we thought we’d share a race with you for Throwback Thursday, the 2008 World Cup Hoogerheide in the Netherlands.

That year, then Dutch National Champion Lars Boom took the win ahead of Belgian Fidea teammates Bart Wellens and World Champion Erwin Vervecken. As for Nys, Boom’s teammate, he finished 12th. Boom would go on to win the 2008 Elite Men’s Cyclocross World Championships in Treviso, Italy, ahead of Zdenek Stybar and…Sven Nys.

Enjoy this classic of perhaps a soon-to-be-returning cyclocross star.

The race video, a recording of the live Sporza broadcast, was posted to YouTube by Herman Steensma earlier this year on January 16th.
