High Schoolers and Juniors will battle it out for leaders jerseys, great prizes - and good dirty fun!

As the videos below show, the first two races in the Oregon Junior and High School Series featured starkly different courses, but both shared great racing. The grassroots series are a fun, non-intimidating way to get kids racing cyclocross, and are bound to ensure a stellar generation of up-and-coming ‘crossers and continued growth of our beloved sport.

Hood River Double Cross
From John Wilson, series promoter:
Wow, what a great turn out at Hood River with some fantastic racing. We had 68 Juniors! That’s a record for any OBRA event for Junior participation except (perhaps – checking on it) a Junior Stage race held several years ago in Eugene. It’s certainly a record for Oregon Cyclocross recorded history and a great kick off to the Oregon Junior & High School Cyclocross Series. Well done!

The mud bog tested everyone’s running ability, and the long straight grass sections tested everyone’s cycling power. A great course and good first test.

There are some familiar faces from last year showing they have brought some good form into this season. Sam Rosenburg and Haley Wilson who won their JCS categories last year have continued their winning ways in Round 1 for 2010. Taylor Tyynismaa took out a couple of wins last year in the JCS but did not do enough races to qualify for the series overall. This year she plans to make all the races, so look out Girls 17-18.

Perrin Falkner is new to bike racing and had an impressive ride, as did Suzanna Hart (did not race the JCS last year). Grayson Szczukowski raced to a solid fourth place in last years JCS and has set the early bench mark in the Boys 11-12.

Congratulations to Colin Dunlap and Trevor Schauer for a strong ride taking out first and second from the 15-16 age category. Dunlap had a smoking great ride beating all the 17+ Boys out of the 15-16 age group, and with Cary Adams hot on his tail setting the benchmark in the 17-18 category. Likewise Perrin Falkner took second in the Women’s race out of the 15-16 age category, but still a lap down on the impressive Taylor Tyynismaa.

Nice job everyone!
