Thus far this season, Kerry Werner (Kona Maxxis Shimano) has been one of the hottest riders on the U.S. scene. Werner won both days at the season-opening GO Cross weekend and then podiumed both days in Rochester.

Last year, the two races in Rochester came down to sprint finishes while the riders sized each other up. This year, Werner said that there has not been as much “politics” in the racing, with riders going full gas from start to finish. He is expecting more of the same with the Europeans in Waterloo for the Trek CX Cup and World Cup Waterloo.

We caught up with Werner on Thursday in Waterloo and asked him about his expectations for the weekend, his season thus far and the husband watts he has gotten after his wedding this summer.
