The cyclocross space has been hot recently with investor activity, after the recent buyout of CrossResults.com and now a large, Pennsylvania-based publisher investing in Cyclocross Magazine.

After featuring cyclocross in a photoshoot in Men’s Health magazine, and showcasing the sport in several issues of Bicycling, the publisher has seen the value and growth in cyclocross. Now that Mountain Bike magazine is gone and rolled into Bicycling, the publisher, who prefers to remain anonymous, needed a third discipline to round out the comprehensive coverage of the sport of cycling.

“Cyclocross is exploding and we’re jumping in before it jumps the shark,” said one executive at the acquiring company. “Also, the guys at Cyclocross Magazine really know how to get dirty, and that really compliments our team.”

The investment terms were not disclosed, but drastic changes are already underway. Publisher/Editor/Mail Boy Andrew Yee has already traded his cyclocross bikes for a surfboard, and Issue 12, slated to mail in late April, has already gone through a drastic makeover, starting with the cover.

“We know what sells magazines, and we’re sure cyclocrossers everywhere will prefer our brief articles, frequent top ten lists and ad-packed pages,” explains the same executive. “Focus groups have loved the new cover, and we think Cyclocross Magazine’s readers will as well.
