KALMTHOUT, BELGIUM – In a finishing sprint that almost perfectly mirrored yesterday’s finish at GP Neerpelt, Belgian Champion Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet-Euphony) bested World Champion Niels Albert  (BKCP-Powerplus) at the line.

Straying from yesterday’s script was the inclusion of Tom Meeusen (Telenet-Fidea) who, after looking ready to crack from the lead group of six riders, managed to hang on when Albert and Nys shed the rest on the final lap. Meeusen had little left to contest the finish, however, leaving the two champions to battle it out for the win.

Sprinting for fourth out of the chase group was 21-year old Lars van der Haar (Rabobank-Giant), who in his first true showing as an elite racer proved that he was right to leave the U23 rankings early.  Kevin Pauwels (Sunweb-Revor) and Bart Wellens (Telenet-Fidea) in came in just behind.

In the women’s field, Belgian champion Sanne Cant (BOXX) rode away from Nikki Harris after the two established an early lead, taking a commanding solo win.
