Two weeks ago, we gave readers an early look into Kona’s 2017 cyclocross and gravel bike line up. Yesterday, at the 2017 Kona Launch in Squamish, BC, we got a closer in-person look at some of these bikes, and the one with the biggest rubber grabbed our attention first.

The steel 2017 Kona Sutra line features two models, with the $1399 Kona Sutra coming with a rack, fenders, Clement MSO 40c tires, barcon shifters with a triple crankset and a stunning purple metal flake finish.

However, the Sutra’s bright orange big brother, the $1999 Rival 1 Sutra LTD dressed with 700x45c WTB Riddler rubber, is what begged for our attention.

The Sutra LTD features big tire clearance, a low bottom bracket (72mm drop), and long-ish chainstays at 44.5cm. Up front, a 71 degree head angle and 50mm offset gives front-end handling pretty similar to the new 2017 Cannondale Super-X. The steel frame and fork feature quick release axles.

See our full photo gallery of this 2017 bike and its spec below, and stay tuned for our first ride impressions and video. The 2017 Kona Sutra and Sutra LTD is expected to be available soon at dealers, but you’ll have to get in line behind us, as we anxiously await a bike for a longer-term test.
