While wandering the aisles at the Southeast Bike Expo, my eye was immediately drawn to the Felt tent, because unlike most of the vendors who were pushing their mountain bikes heavily (understandably, given the season), the guys at Felt had their new 65X Cyclocross bike prominently on display. With a retail price of $1749, this disc brake-equipped bike might be one of the first we’ll be seeing this Fall on courses country-wide. I had the guys give me a “guided tour” of the bike and tell me a bit about their decisions for the components and the disc brakes.

The bike itself is built with internally and externally butted Superlite aluminum frame, designed so that the frame and fork have maximum clearance for mud shedding. The bike is equipped with Avid BB5 disc brakes with a BB30 bottom bracket, ControlTaper headtube, and SRAM components. Felt says that it “all adds up to a quick, lively and durable ’cross bike ready to tackle any course.”
