Cyclocross Magazine and Erwin Vervecken team up to sponsor the summer SpectaCross in New Jersey. Full press release below.

April 23, 2009; Conshohocken, PA, USA:  Cyclocross Magazine has joined the New Jersey State Fair SpectaCross as a sponsor of the cyclocross races on the opening weekend of this year’s New Jersey State Fair / Sussex County Farm and Horse show.  The magazine joins Erwin Vervecken Webdesign, TrialsIn.com, BikeReg.com and Beth Mason Physical Therapy as sponsors of the two day event.  “As the only print and online publication dedicated to cyclocross 12 months a year, we’re thrilled to sponsor the opening race day of the North American ‘cross season, ” said Andrew Yee, the publisher of Cyclocross Magazine.

The Cyclocross Magazine Friday Night Sprints will consist of 30 minute races for each class, followed by a program of fireworks.  $2,000 in prize money is on offer for the Elite Classes on Friday night alone, with an additional $2,500 on Saturday.  “Originally, we were just trying to fit as many classes as possible into the after-work hours,” says Ken Getchell of SpectaSport, the event’s promoter.  “But we quickly realized that there are definite advantages in having the first race of the season be a little shorter than normal as the racers adapt to the rigors of ‘cross racing.  Even so, 30 minutes is still as long as a typical short track race and many criteriums.”

On Saturday, August 1, cyclocross racers and trials competitors will compete again. The second day of racing at the fair will take place in three sessions throughout what is typically the largest attendance day at the New Jersey State Fair, which draws nearly a quarter-million visitors annually to rural Sussex County New Jersey located less than an hour from New York City.  After the bike races, the Miller Lite Outdoor Entertainment Arena will host Monster Truck shows, demolition derbies, concerts, high-power tractor pulls and thrill shows for the remainder of the fair’s 2009 run.  In keeping with the theme of automotive destruction in many of those events, the cyclocross racers will have a run-up over a car so they can do some car crushing of their own.

Registration for the July 31-August 1New Jersey State Fair SpectaCross is now open through BikeReg.com, and admission to the fair is included with all entries.  More information about the event can be found at www.SpectaSport.com.
