In Belgium, cyclocross is big enough that most pro racers focus on that, while dabbling in road or mountain biking. And some ’crossers really dabble in road, by taking on the National Road Race Championships this past weekend.

In the women’s race, Sanne Cant had a great showing in 10th place, as did ’crosser Ellen van Loy in 19th.

In the men’s race, ’crosser-turned-roadie Tom Boonen took third, while Sven Vanthourenhout was the first current ’crosser, in 15th. The young Wietse Bosmans was 24th, while Sven Nys was back in 54th. Bart Wellens (82nd), Tom Meeusen (90th) and Kevin Pauwels (102nd) rounded out the ’cross contingent.

All of this just makes us miss ’cross season, but there’s only two months until September!
