LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — The course continued to soften for the next race of the day; the Women 40-44 final. Catherine Moore would take the holeshot, and lead the women out on course as the group jockeyed for position. There were a couple of near misses as they raced on to the soft mud from the pavement, as the need for raw power was replaced by bike handling. By the time the group made it to the flyover, Katrina Dowdichuk (USA) had assumed the lead with Kim Flynn (USA) chasing. Margell Abel (USA) sat comfortably in third.

Through the pits for the second time on the first lap, both leaders took fresh bikes and looked to be very evenly matched as the lead was traded constantly as they made their way around the slippery course.

On the power sections, Dowdichuck seemed to hold the advantage, as Flynn would then close up when they dismounted their machines to run. Both riders were clearly motivated, and pushing hard to make a selection.

Dowdichuck was finally able to shake Flynn with one to go, as Flynn appeared to have issues in the wooded section. Abel would ride in for the final podium place. The results of this race were very similar to the 40-44 race at the US National Championships held last week, though Dowdichuck got the better of Flynn this time around.
