Sure, there's plenty more cyclocross racing on the horizon with the 2016 Cyclocross National Championships and of course the World Championships at the end of January 2016. But the end of the calendar year has us thinking back over the last 12 months and reflecting on those moments that had the cyclocross community talking.

Here, we look back over some of 2015's main events, our favorite moments from the last year and the tech that shaped this season thus far.

Gravel Gags or Gravel Regs?

It was unquestionably our best-received, and also most successful April Fool’s story ever, if you measure success in the number of people fooled. Over two weeks later, at the Sea Otter Classic, several bike manufacturers were admitting they weren’t so sure if their gravel bikes would meet the new USA Cycling requirements.

Over six months later, Bicycling editor Bill Strickland stumbled across it, and briefly fell for it as well.

New USA Cycling CEO Derek Bouchard-Hall called it “one of the best April Fool’s Day [articles] ever” and confided, “I remember reading it halfway through and thinking that this might actually be something that is plausible.” Since then, Bouchard-Hall, in describing USA Cycling’s new 2016 goals, has admitted the federation wants to “play in that space.”
