’Cross & Gravel: The Cyclocross Bible, by Alexander Forrester

The Cyclocross Bible takes a comprehensive look at the sport of cyclocross.

The Cyclocross Bible takes a comprehensive look at the sport of cyclocross.

The Cyclocross Bible is a complete reference for all aspects of cyclocross racing and training. The book is written by British cyclocrosser Alexander Forrester with help from coach Mark Adams and massage therapist Renée Lamb.

Perhaps it’s only fitting that ten years after Brit Simon Burney published his third and final edition of Cyclocross: Training and Technique, another comprehensive cyclocross book emerges out Great Britain.

Know someone recently bitten by the cyclocross bug, or someone intrigued by what you spend your weekends doing? The Cyclocross Bible might be the gift of instruction and knowledge that hooks them for good.

The book covers a number of topics, starting with how to dress for ’cross and continuing to how to select tires, training, diet, technique and more. The authors use photos from Balint Hamvas, Kent Baumgartner and more to illustrate their points, including creative use of some wide-angle photos to illustrate different cornering techniques. Another unique aspect of the book is its use of science to demonstrate how to ride the fastest and charts for selecting gear.

All cyclocrossers are likely to find something interesting in the Cyclocross Bible, but it’s a gift best suited for those new to the sport. Its comprehensive approach helps new ’crossers up the learning curve and over the barriers.
