Creative Events with a Focus on Fun

A few data points don’t necessarily make a trend, but we’re liking some of the new, creative approaches to competitive cycling events. Clif Bar and Giro both got involved in event promotion this year, with the Clif Bar’s Cykel Scramble relay race in Marin, California, and Giro’s Grinduro gravel/enduro race in Quincy, California.

Both events were held just a drive from the Bay Area’s Silicon Valley, known as the center of tech innovation, and perhaps that out-of-the-box thinking played in a role in these two events. But the best part of them, besides their unique format, was that all athletes, including weekend warriors like us, could attempt to get by World Cup winner Katerina Nash on a flyover, or briefly chase SSCXWC Champ Adam Craig on a timed downhill, and then laugh with them about the memorable times afterwards.
