Julie Lockhart is a cyclocross scene staple, and her closet of stars-and-stripes jerseys has expanded even more, after taking yet another win in the women’s 70+ race.

Advice to grandmothers and mothers curious about the sport… Go out and ride you’re your friends and try interesting things. Learn to love it, because it is exciting, and interesting, and keeps your mind working all the time. It’s a chess game.

On alleviating someone’s concerns about trying ’cross… It’s a load of fun. There are wonderful people out there. Everybody is helpful, everybody teaches you, everybody works with you and it’s amazingly invigorating.

On going to Masters Worlds… I would support the Worlds if I had the budget because I think that it’s important that we go and support it and make the UCI consider that the women do have people populating the age groups as they come up, and that they do need to start opening up the higher age levels.
