June 18, 2009; Conshohocken, PA, USA:  Zipp Speed Weaponry of Speedway, Indiana announced today that it will continue in its role as title sponsor of the Zipp OVCX Cyclocross Series through the 2009 season.  The Zipp OVCX Series encompasses the tri-state region of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky; an area that series officials have noted is larger than Italy.  The announcement marks the third consecutive year that Zipp has sponsored the fastest growing series in America’s fastest growing cycling discipline.  “We feel it’s important to sponsor this race series when it’s in our own back yard,” says Zipp Marketing Manager Andy Paskins, who could barely contain his Hoosier pride when he noted that the Tour’s 2009 schedule expansion comes largely as the result of additional races in Indiana.  Clearly there is a collegial inter-state rivalry brewing in the OVCX that is beginning to resemble Middle America’s other great Autumn passion – college football.

Zipp is also using their sponsorship of the OVCX Tour as a marketing platform to launch their new 303-Cyclocross wheelset.  According to Paskins, the 303-Cyclocross is the first wheelset that Zipp has built specifically for ‘cross.  Of course, any wheel optimized for cyclocross will also be a weapon of choice for the cobbles of the Spring Classics.  In this year’s classics, the 303-Cyclocross wheelset was put to the test by Cervélo TestTeam, Saxo Bank and Garmin-Slipstream.  Cervélo TestTeam’s Thor Hushvold rode his new 303-Cyclocross wheels to victory in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (formerly Het Volk) and also used them to finish on the podium of Paris-Roubaix earlier this year.  As part of their commitment to the OVCX, Zipp is offering a brand new set of 303-Cyclocross wheels as the grand prize of OVCX’s traditional season-ending “hardcore” raffle that is open to anyone, amateur or pro, who competes in at least 10 Zipp OVCX events in 2009.   More information on the new Zipp 303-Cyclocross wheelset is available at www.zipp.com.
