Coming up this weekend is New Jersey’s Mercer Cup USGP. After both teams have successfully divided and conquered the domestic cyclocross contests for the past several weeks, finally we’ll get to see East meet West as Cannondale / CyclocrossWorld.com will square off against Kona. So far, I’d say East has been dominating this matchup – but don’t count out the Twin Towers and the power of TreeFarm’s (aka Ryan Trebon) stars n’ stripes.

Katerina Nash (Luna) leads the women’s series while Jamey Driscoll (Cannondale / CyclocrossWorld.com) has the jersey in the men’s race, but is in a dead heat with Trebon. There’s a brawl brewing!

An exciting twist to the two-team showdown dynamic is Todd Wells’ return to the scene. He won the second day of last year’s Mercer Cup and held the overall series lead going into the final weekend in Portland. Another not-so-dark horse to watch is Canadian national champ Geoff Kabush, who could benefit from the other teams’ concern for one another. Also making the trip east are former world championship juniors silver medalist Danny Summerhill (Felt-Holowesko Partners-Garmin), Carl Decker (Giant) and 2008 junior national champ Zach McDonald (Stevens/Classic Cycle). Thus far missing from the start list is Decker’s teammate and mountain bike Olympian, Adam Craig.

Don’t forget that Cyclocross Magazine will provide the live, blow-by-blow coverage of the event this weekend. Stay tuned!

To help prepare us for what’s in store, Here’s the video coverage I shot of the really rainy event back in 2007. It was cold, super slick and good hard racing.
