Twenty2 Cycles fabricates titanium, steel and aluminum bicycles in Vail, Colorado, just a few hours away from the 2013 NAHBS show. Founded in 2011 by Todd Robison, Ryan Van Ness and Alan Christie, the trio builds road, mountain, cyclocross, and touring bicycles, but also is known for their fat bikes, which can come in handy in the snowy Vail winters.

For NAHBS 2013, Twenty2 Cycles brought a unique do-it-all “monster cross” titanium bike that could be considered the modern day, big dollar version of the Frankenstein bikes that were the basis for cyclocross bikes just a few decades ago. Only, this Monster Cross, while it has fat tires, actually has smaller wheels, utilizing the increasingly popular 650b wheel size.

This fat tire creation from Twenty2 Cycles combines a Gates carbon belt drive, a Rohloff internally geared hub, a twist shifter and a rigid White Bros Rock Solid carbon mountain bike fork to form a cyclocross-capable adventure bike. Fit with 650b wheels and fat Schwalbe Rocket Ron knobbies, the bike looks to have sufficient clearance for 700c/29er wheels with narrow cyclocross tires.

Twenty2 Cycles says this bike is built with adventure and expeditions in mind, and features internal cable routing “to keep the front triangle free to mount frame bags” and an “element-proof” chainless drivetrain to keep you rolling regardless of the trail conditions or Mother Nature’s mood.
The bike is an entry into the Best Cyclocross Bike category, but could easily contest for the mountain bike prize as well.
