One of the annual traditions of Cyclocross Magazine is reflecting back on a year filled with reviewing products and award those that struck us as the best of the best in the realms of cyclocross, gravel and cycling gear. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be releasing all of the awards one day at a time. Be sure to keep checking back to see what products are most worth your hard-earned dollars. Issue 28 also has the Editors’ Awards and the Readers’ Choice awards, so be sure to order your backcopy today, which is also available on Uberflip.

For the 2014-15 season, TRP made some adjustments on their Spyre SLC mechanical disc brakes, and they certainly won over our readers with the changes after looking the results from our 2015 Readers’ Choice Awards.

At 156g per wheel, the TRP Spyre SLC caliper weight is kept low with the aid of carbon actuation arms. The Spyre SLC can be used with 140mm or 160mm disc rotors, and retails for $109.99. Specs aside, our readers may have also been sold on the rider results. Gage Hecht, Junior cyclocross sensation of the 2014-15 season, rode to first place in the 2015 National Championships and stood on the podium in the World Cup at Hoogerheide by using the stopping power of these mechanical disc brakes on both of his Moots bikes.
