Main-Logo-FINALThe Derby City Cup in Louisville, Kentucky, is pleased to announce a title sponsor agreement with the Tim Johnson MudFund. This partnership will bring Elite UCI Men’s, Women’s and Junior’s racing back to Eva Bandman Park on November 9th and 10th of this year.  The MudFund is a Junior and U23 scholarship initiative started by multi-time national champion, Tim Johnson.  In its role as title sponsor the MudFund is also pledging its support for youth cyclocross by waiving all entry fees for all riders in the UCI Juniors category during both days of competition.

“The MudFund is supporting Louisville so junior cyclocross riders can race for free and the U.S. can continue to develop our younger riders to compete internationally,” said Tim Johnson.

“The USGP in Louisville started something great, but the world championships did something historic for all of us,” continued Johnson. “I’m really excited to see Eva Bandman Park being used as what it was designed for – truly world class cyclocross racing!”

The 2013 Derby City Cup weekend marks the first time Elite-level racing will be held in Louisville since the UCI Cyclocross World Championship were held at Eva Bandman this past February.  “The MudFund has stepped up in a big way to keep the momentum going in Louisville,” said race promoter Joe Czerwonka.  “We’re very excited to be working with Tim to support junior cycling development in the US, and to help promote his great organization.”

On Friday November 8th at 4:00 PM, Johnson will host a free clinic for Junior and U23 boys and girls at the Eva Bandman race venue. He will offer young riders a skills clinic, followed by a few hot laps on course. Stay tuned for details.

The Tim Johnson MudFund is a charitable organization that offers scholarships to deserving high school and college student athletes for domestic and international cyclocross competition. Through the support of a generous sponsor, the MudFund is able to expand on its mission and support the Louisville cyclocross race, ensuring the Louisville race occurs and Junior and U23 racers have an opportunity to race at one of the country’s best cyclocross venues.

The MudFund was established through proceeds from the sales of Das Pro und The Rookie, a full-length Kickstarter-funded DVD Johnson filmed with Chandler Delinks and Todd Prekaski during the 2010/11 season.  It is currently accepting applications for the first of two rounds of scholarships for Junior and U23 boys and girls seeking financial assistance for the 2013/14 cyclocross season.  To apply, visit www.mudfund.org.

The MudFund Derby City Cup UCI and OVCX race weekend is scheduled for November 9th and 10, with pre-registration opening Friday, September 27th.  For more details, visit www.derbycitycup.com.
