Belgian news source Nieuwsblad reported that World Champion Sven Nys will be leaving Colnago for Trek, a switch that will surely throw American cyclocross fans into a frenzy. We already knew that Nys would be stateside for CrossVegas, but if he plans to race for a team based in the US, will we see him throughout the season?

According to Nieuwsblad, “During his whole professional career, Nys has ridden on the Italian Colnago brand, but by January 1st 2014, Trek will have a new ’cross model ready for him.”

With the rumors circulated, Nys released a statement saying that nothing is set in stone yet, and that he will be racing on his Colnago until at least the end of 2013. We’re curious to see what Trek he’d be on, since we’re betting it won’t be their most recently announced aluminum Crockett model.

I had a Trek XO 1 CX bike. It handled like a cow in sand. Quickly got rid of it for a Ridley.

And this matters somewhat how because less people showed up for CycloCross worlds than a high school football game; and those games are even shown on real television.

most think this is a money issue...of course it is...what do you think if you are being paid as a pro. This is a financial security for Sven..if tomorrow he got injured and won't be able to start the comming races...he will be losing a lot of money.

Did Trek buy up another brand to run it into the ground?

I'm sure he could do pretty well on a Surly Steamroller.

I couldn't give a half a happy rat fart what bike Nys (or any other pro) rides.

I'm more than certain that "production issue" has more to do with Nys not being available to market unitl January. If his Colnago contract was up in August, we would already see a release of the new carbon Treks. Follow the money...

From what I heard, both Nys and Albert where on bikes with discs before last season started, but didn't like them...

If it means he'll be at the Trek race in Wisconsin, I'm all for it! ;-)

I still remember the worlds where Nys snaked his retiring teammate. Never been a fan since.

Since I can't afford any bike he's riding, I'm far more concerned about what I'm riding and that I can get a good stream of the races all season long so i can watch the pros. Their particular bikes don't bother me that much.

it's like if Jordan decided to wear Reeboks.

The Crelan Landbouwkredit team is getting a new bike sponsor on Jan 1 2014. They have a deal with Trek. Sven has a personal contract with Colnago. Might be the same deal when Stybar was racing for Quick Step and they were sponsored by Specialized but he was racing a Ridley with Spec paint. It was in all the Belgie papers so it must be true right?

Molly sure, but that's largely a production issue from our understanding as brakes weren't ready.

This could be worse than the whole disc brake revolution.

There were confirmed rumors that both Sven and Niels would be racing on disc brake Colnago all last year.
