Wednesday’s Masters of Cross brought the 2010/2011 season to a fitting end with our two Elite World Champions taking top honors for the night. It was perhaps fitting that Zdenek Stybar and Marianne Vos, who both repeated their World Titles this year, also repeated their victories here in the Ethias Arena in Hasselt, Belgium.

The indoor cross race, held before a crowd of nearly 6000 people, consisted of three events: a time trial, a three-person relay race, and a traditional criterium. Finishing behind Stybar and Vos were Nys and Daphny van den Brand, respectively, followed by Niels Albert and Helen Wyman.

The juniors event was won by Laurens Sweeck. New this year was the relay race, which combined men and women. The winning team was Sven Nys, Rob Peeters and Joyce Vanderbeken. The time-trials were respectively won by Zdenek Stybar and Marianne Vos.

Earlier in the day, UCI President Pat McQuaid honored the podium of the World Cup overall rankings, with Niels Albert taking the title, second going to Kevin Pauwels and third to Sven Nys. At the end of the day Sven Nys was crowned as “King of the Winter.”
