During the two years Rochester Cyclocross has been held at Genesee Valley Park, Stephen Hyde (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) has come out on both ends of sprint finishes.

On Saturday on Day 1 of the 2018 Rochester Cyclocross weekend, Hyde decided he did not want his chances to come down to a sprint again this year.

Hyde ripped off a big Lap 5 attack to escape from a lead group that included Kerry Werner (Kona Maxxis Shimano), Gage Hecht (Alpha Bicycle – Groove Subaru) and Lance Haidet (Donnelly Sports).

Werner emerged as the lead chaser, but he could not catch the two-time defending national champion Hyde. Werner held on to finish second behind Hyde, and Tobin Ortenblad (Santa Cruz / Donkey Label) patiently moved his way forward throughout the race and topped Jack Kisseberth (Garneau-Easton p/b Transitions LifeCare) in a sprint to grab the third podium spot.
