Along the same lines as the news coming from Gevenalle regarding their new shifter offerings comes word from Wolf Tooth Components and Lindarets about a solution for riders looking for options at the other end of the shifter cable.

Previously, Wolf Tooth Components and Lindarets teamed up to bring wide-range gearing to Shimano road drivetrains with the RoadLink. And people loved it. From tourers to cyclocrossers to randonneurs to commuters, a broad segment of the cycling public has embraced 11-36t and larger cassettes for road use. But even so, many still wanted more; more range and more security.

In response, the two companies began exploring the possibility of adapting Shimano mountain derailleurs to work with the company’s road shifters. The result is the new Tanpan, which should prove big for gravel riders and the monster cross crowd.

The Lindarets x Wolf Tooth Tanpan is a cable pull amplifier that allows Shimano mountain rear derailleurs to work with Shimano road shifters, and is a great solution for riders wanting to convert their gravel, cyclocross, commuter or road bike to the simplicity and light weight of Wolf Tooth’s Drop-Stop chainrings, or for those whose riding demands lower gearing than a typical double can provide. Paired with a clutch-enabled Shadow+ rear derailleur, the Tanpan provides chain security for those whose rides begin where the pavement ends.

Available in 10- and 11-speed models, the Tanpan consists of a precision-machined 6061 aluminum frame and engineering-grade Delrin pull wheel. The self-lubricating wheel and sealed cartridge bearing keep shifting smooth, while an integrated cable adjuster allows for quick and easy setup.

There are two Tanpan models on offer. The Tanpan SH10 is compatible with 10-speed shifters and derailleurs and up to 11-36 tooth cassettes (or 11-42 tooth with a Wolf Tooth Giant Cog and GoatLink). The Tanpan SH11 is compatible with 11-speed shifters and derailleurs and up to 11-42 tooth cassettes (or 10-44 tooth with a Wolf Tooth Giant Cog and GoatLink 11).

The Tanpan is the first product to be CNC machined at Wolf Tooth Components’ new Minneapolis facility and weighs a remarkable 17g.

The Tanpan will be available to view first-hand this weekend at the Wolf Tooth Components booth at Frostbike in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as on the Rock Lobster/Bruce Gordon Schnozola at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show in Sacramento, California.

For those unable to make either show, the Tanpan is available now for preorder via wolftoothcomponents.com and lindarets.com and will ship beginning next month on March 25, 2016. Pricing is $39.95 usd.
