While Europe’s cyclocross powerhouses were busy awarding its National Championship jerseys, two National Championship jerseys were unveiled at Aptos High School today at the Surf City Cyclocross Series Finale in Aptos, Calif.

National Champ Tim Johnson (Cannondale – CyclocrossWorld) made the four-hour drive up from Santa Barbara to get some much-needed cyclocross racing in his legs as he prepares for the World Championships in Tabor. After taking ten days off the bike to do some cross country skiing in Bend, Ore. and recharge his engine, Johnson came to Aptos to check out the Norcal scene, ride some dirt and show off his new jersey.

The new championship kit features not only the typical red, white and blue and sponsors typical of most jerseys, but also includes his Twitter handle on the back of his skinsuit to give his competitors yet one more way to try to follow him.

While the bars and stars are there, both the blues and reds of the jersey are on the lighter side compared to the traditional USAC National Championship jersey. Johnson’s kit will soon feature a matching bike with the same colors, of which we got an exclusive preview. Johnson will take delivery of his new bikes this week as he gets ready for Europe.

Cal Giant Berry Farms’ Cody Kaiser also made the trip to Surf City for a Worlds prep training race, and took the wraps off his Junior National Championship jersey. Similar to former National Champions Josie Jacques-Maynes and Andy Jacques-Maynes, the Sacramento-based rider’s jersey features the traditional stars and bars but is highlighted with images of sponsor’s variety of berries.

Kaiser’s teammate Meredith Miller, second at Nationals, also attended the race in her prep for Worlds. The Colorado-based rider flew in from Colorado on Saturday and flies back on Monday before leaving for Europe on Wednesday.

Check back soon for a race report, images and video interviews from the day’s racing.

Jim, believe it or not, they're actually still in the design, just super subtle and faded.

Where are the balls? I miss the balls.....where was Struve on this design?

Um, 'Stars and Bars' specifically relates to the Confederate flag. Might want to use to more traditional, and accurate, Stars and Stripes in this article.
