The newly-crowned Canadian National Champion Mical Dyck is racing the cyclocross circuit aboard a bicycle unlike many others in the pro ranks. Dyck’s bike, from sponsor Naked Bicycles of British Columbia, a NAHBS award-winning custom builder, is steel and equipped with tubeless wheels and tires. We take a look at Dyck’s unique Nationals-winning bike, as seen earlier this season in Vegas.

Dyck’s custom steel Cross Adventure model is made by Naked’s Sam Whittingham, features integrated Di2 and disc brake hose routing, and paired with a painted-to-match Whiskey Parts Co. No.7 fork, sporting a 9mm quick release.

Shimano outfits Dyck’s Naked with Ultegra Di2 R785S hydraulic STI levers mated to a Ultegra 6870 rear derailleur. 140mm RT-99 Centerlock rotors front and rear are paired with R785S disc calipers to provide the stopping power. Shimano’s XTR M9000 pedals are mounted to Ultegra 6800 cranks to round out the drivetrain.

Where Dyck’s bike varies from the standard Shimano Di2 build is her 1x setup. Dyck runs a 42 tooth single ring, a stock Shimano inner ring for the 6800 4-arm crankset. To keep the chain in place, she is uses an e*Thirteen XCX chain guide, a light but sturdy choice and shifts across an 11-28 11-speed cassette.

Shimano’s own PRO components provides her cockpit with their Turnix saddle, Vibe Carbon LTD stem, alloy Vibe 7S handlebar and Vibe UD seatpost.

Dyck has been a long time advocate for tubeless tires and wheels for ‘cross, previously racing for the Stan’s NoTubes Elite Team, Dyck has retained NoTubes as a sponsor, and her Naked is equipped with a NoTubes Iron Cross wheelset.

The Iron Cross wheels are equipped with Kenda Kommando tires in 700 X 32 with shallow knobs, not the new Kommando-X. Dyck chose the more supple, narrower and non-SCT (Kenda’s Sealant Compatible Tire tubeless-ready designation) Kommando tires to stay below the UCI required 33mm maximum tire width in Vegas.

Dyck has piloted tubeless setups to many notable results — along with her recent Elite win at Canadian Nationals, she was the highest placed North American, Elite male or female, at the 2015 Cyclocross World Championship in Tabor, Czech Republic, finishing an impressive 12th place in the Elite Women’s race.
