One of the traditionally unique aspects to the Midwest’s Zipp OVCX Tour presented by Papa John’s is the series of open-competition state championships that close out the season.  This year, the state title mania will begin in Lexington on November 21 as the Commonwealth Eye Surgery Promotion Cross hosts the Kentucky State Cyclocross Championships for the first time. All of OVCX’s state championships are open events with all riders invited and state titles being awarded to the first home-state rider.

Race Director Brendan Canty says that he and his Promotion Cycling clubmates are upgrading the event in advance of their first opportunity to host the Kentucky State Championships. “We’re making it more of an event than ever before,” he said recently. “We’re bringing in one of Lexington premier Cajun and Creole restaurants, Bourbon n’ Toulouse.  We’ve upgraded our presentation and we will have podium celebrations for both the top event finishers as well as a separate Kentucky State Championship podium celebration for every class.” Canty also advises that vegetarians need not be concerned about menu options, “Bourbon n’ Toulouse are bringing both meat and vegetarian items. I can testify that their vegetarian dishes are simply delicious.”

The Kentucky State Championships/Commonwealth Eye Surgery Promotion Cross takes place Sunday, November 21 in Lexington’s Veterans Park.  Registration is now open on BikeReg.com.
