Cyclocross Magazine was at HPCX and chatted with a few of the finishers in the elite races, and we wanted to share their stories and impressions of the race with you.

Interview with Elite Men’s race winner Lukas Winterberg:

Lukas prefaced the interview by pointing out that his English wasn’t too good, but clearly his time in the US this season has done wonders for it, since he was incredibly well-spoken, especially so soon after finishing such a tough race. The Swiss racer is on the Philadelphia Cyclocross School team, and is profiled in Cyclocross Magazine Issue 14, which covers the Euro Invasion of the US.

Interview with Elite Women’s race winner Nikki Thiemann:

Nikki took first place at Beacon and again at HPCX over Laura Van Gilder, one of the top cyclocrossers in the world and certainly on the East Coast. These were Nikki’s first two UCI wins, and they came at a great time, since she went on to win a Halloween costume contest on Monday as well.

Interview with second place in the men’s race, Jerome Townsend:

Jerome is one of the racers for Smartstop/Mock Orange Bikes, and he’s been quietly sneaking on to podiums on the East Coast all season. This is his best result at a UCI race this season, and we’ll be keeping an eye on him at Cycle-Smart International this weekend.

Interview with third place, Craig Richey:

Craig is heading to Canadian Nationals this week, and you can check back soon for his most recent rider diary about the great weekend he had in New Jersey, with a win at Beacon and a third place finish at HPCX.

Interview with Jeremy Durrin (seventh) and Anthony Clark (eighth):

It’s been said that Jeremy Durrin is on the verge of a breakout performance this season, and he has the results to prove it, stacking up weekend after weekend. He’ll be heading to Belgium come December, and we’ll be staying in touch with him while he’s there.

Anthony Clark is definitely the fan favorite of the East Coast cyclocross scene, thanks to his exuberant attitude at races. As Jeremy Powers’ protege, his “Sick what?!” catchphrase can be heard at races all over the New England area. He’s been proving that he’s a “racer to watch” as well, with an eighth place at Downeast day two and again at HPCX.
