After succumbing to Luke Keough’s sprint yesterday, the Cannondale-CyclocrossWorld duo of Jamey Driscoll and Christian Heule broke away for the eventual sprint for the win at  the final race in the Shimano New England Professional Cyclocross Series. Heule took the win in the sprint ahead of Driscoll, with Luke Keough (Keough Cyclocross) finishing third but with enough points to take the overal series title in both u23 and elite ranks. Heule, thanks to his win today and second place yesterday to Keough, snatched away Justin Lindine’s surefire first or second place placing, leaving the “Honey Badger” in third spot.

Despite a more technical course, the race looked to be a repeat of yesterday. The lead group was large and the pace with driven hard early on by Adam Myerson (SmartStop/MOB p/b Ridley) and Texan Bryan Fawley (Orbea USA).

With six laps to go, Driscoll, Keough and Heule broke away from the lead group of fifteen and were soon joined by Dylan McNicholas (Cyclocrossworld) who immediately attacked upon bridging.

The race for the win was on with five laps to go. After McNicholas was caught, Heule counterattacked and Keough was unable to cover. With the gap at ten seconds between Heule and the chase, Driscoll attempted to join his teammate up the road. Trying to match Driscoll’s acceleration, Keough went down hard in a soft corner and Driscoll was able to safely reach his teammate.

With Driscoll and Heule working together, McNicholas, Keough, Justin Lindine (Bikereg.com-Joe’s Garage) and Mike Garrigan (Lapierre Canada) were left to chasing and attacking one another until, on the last lap, Lindine hit the group and got caught up with a mechanical.

Through the finish, Heule was able to hold off Driscoll for the win and the battle for third was hotly contested 20 seconds behind with Keough outsprinting McNicholas.

After the weekend of racing, Heule was able to move into second in the series and Luke Keough took the win in both the elite and U23 competitions.
