GoPro Hero HD Helmet Camera BacPac Battery

The popular GoPro HD Hero helmet and handlebar camera, often used by cyclocross racers to capture the drama of their own race, now offers over five hours of video recording in HD video with the Battery BacPac. The extended battery option joins the new LCD BacPac screen, released last month, as new accessories for the GoPro HD Hero camera.

We previously reviewed the original GoPro Hero Wide camera, and have our HD Hero review coming shortly. Official details below.

March 2, 2011 – Half Moon Bay, Calif. – GoPro, the world’s leading wearable and gear mountable camera company, today announced the launch of the Battery BacPac, the second in a line of removable expansion modules for the company’s best selling 1080p HD HERO camera. The Battery BacPac is a standalone GoPro battery charger that also attaches to the back of the 1080p HD HERO, nearly doubling video and time-lapse photo record times to over 5 hours. This adds to the HD HERO’s reputation as one of the most versatile cameras in the world. Available for order today at GoPro.com and subsequently shipping to retailers around the world, the Battery BacPac has an MSRP of $49.99.

The Battery BacPac follows the incredibly successful LCD BacPac released by GoPro this past February. The LCD BacPac is a removable LCD screen for the 1080p HD HERO camera and, along with the Battery BacPac, illustrates GoPro’s dedication to providing its customers with innovative ways to expand the functionality of their GoPro camera without requiring them to buy an entirely new camera.

“Our customers have been asking us to produce a standalone charger for their spare HD HERO batteries, and we asked ourselves to consider what else a device like this could, and should do, “ says Nicholas Woodman, GoPro’s founder and CEO. “Thanks to the rear expansion port featured on all 1080p HD HERO cameras, the decision was clear. Make a battery charger, yes, but also allow customers to plug this charger and included battery into the back of the HD HERO camera to almost double video and time-lapse photos record times to 5+ hours. The Battery BacPac isn’t just about longer record times…it’s about enabling our customers to use their HD HERO cameras in more creative ways than ever before.”

Features:
Plugs into any USB charging source (computer, wall, auto chargers) to charge GoPro 1100mAh Lithium-ion batteries
Attaches to the back of the 1080p HD HERO camera, providing nearly 2x video and time-lapse photo record times
Built-in LED lights indicate battery charge status

Included Items:
1 Battery BacPac
1 1100mAh Li-ion Battery
1 Waterproof Door for HD HERO housing
1 Skeleton Door for HD HERO housing
1 USB cable

GoPro LCD BacPac for HD Hero Helmet Camera

January 31, 2011 — Half Moon Bay, Calif. — GoPro, the worldʼs leading wearable and gear mountable camera company, today announced the availability of the LCD BacPac, a removable LCD screen for the companyʼs HD HERO camera. The LCD BacPac represents the first in a line of expansion modules to be released for the HD HERO camera. Available for order today, subsequently shipping to retailers around the world, the LCD BacPac has an MSRP of $79.99.

The LCD BacPac attaches to the camera via the HERO Port™—a small expansion port located on the back of the camera. As a removable accessory, the LCD BacPac keeps the HD HERO camera as small and light as possible, yet provides the convenience of an LCD screen when attached.

Acclaimed by industry professionals and consumers alike for its broadcast quality HD video capture and unrivaled versatility, the HD HERO camera now benefits from the enhanced convenience of a detachable LCD screen:

  1. easy framing of complex scenes; see what you are shooting
  2. playback videos and photos directly on HD HERO camera
  3. transform the HD HERO camera into one of the world’s most powerful everyday cameras

The LCD BacPac illustrates GoPro’s dedication to evolving the HD HERO camera into one of the world’s most versatile HD cameras.

“We designed the HD HERO camera to be a professional HD video capture tool, and that meant planning for expandability,” said Nicholas Woodman, GoPro CEO. “At the core, we’ve kept the HD HERO camera as small and light as possible, cutting out everythign that isn’t required for capturing incredible HD content. Our wide angle lens allows for the omission of an LCD screen for most uses, but of course there are times when an LCD screen comes in handy. We’re excited to provide this functionality to our customers via the LCD BacPac. This is the first of many expansion BacPacs to come, and one more step towards establishing the HD HERO as one of the most versatile cameras in the world.”

Included with the new LCD BacPac are four new housing backdoors that can be attached to both the existing HD HERO waterproof camera housing as well as the HD Wrist housing, which enables the HD HERO to be worn on the wrist. The new backdoors allow both housings to fully enclose the HD HERO camera plus LCD BacPac within the respective housings. Furthermore, the LCD BacPac is compatible with all existing GoPro mounts, when attached to the HD HERO camera.
