Cyclocross Magazine’s Fantasy Cyclocross League By Jake Sisson

Sometimes, schedules can be cruel. 24 hours ago, I started out on my first of three exams. 24 hours later, I had just finished up my third. But now I finally can finally focus on homework that matters…Fantasy Cyclocross scores.

This past weekend’s action featured the final stop in the Superprestige circuit in Vorselaar, Belgium where Sven Nys was looking to bring home his 9th Superprestige title, and the 75 bonus points that went with it. Dutch riders also played their hands at Saturday’s GP Heerlen in Heerlen, Holland.

There was a tie atop the week’s leaderboard this week with both Mudders (Aspen Gorry, USA) and Lampre (Jens Willemijn, BEL) scoring 166 points a piece. Second place went to TMSD (Tomas Michels, USA) with 161 points, while third place went to Cross Town Traffic (John Wheeler II, USA) who notched a total of 157 points. This week’s All-Star team is as follows (Mudders’ picks in bold, Lampre’s picks in italics): Sven Nys (30), Erwin Vervecken (22), Richard Groenendaal (27), Thijs Al (40), Philipp Walsleben (30), Gerben de Knegt (26), Daphny Van den Brand (22), Reza Hormes-Ravenstijn (12), Sanne Van Paassen (30) and Saskia Elemans (25) adding up to a total of 264 points. Guess that goes to show that sometimes it’s picking lots of people who score that’s the better option than picking the biggest scorers.

Overall, Montanacyclocross.com (Shaun Radley, USA) still leads the charge with a total of 5305 points. Vorm een Team Helikopter (Mike Rolcik, USA) is once again in second with 5159 points and Bergen FK (Jake Sisson, USA) sits rather uncomfortably in third position, with 5124 points, only 5 points clear of fourth place. Let’s hope my boys and girls can hold out and bring home that podium!

With only one week left to play, it looks like Montanacyclocross.com has enough of a lead to hold off any final charge. Positions 2 through 7 are only separated by about 70 points, and a big week could shuffle those standings significantly! Stay tuned, you don’t want to miss this! Watch out for a preview of the final day of racing, coming out tomorrow.

Rumor has it, we at CXM have some neato prizes to the lucky folks who land on the podium in Fanatasy Cyclocross.

As always, check out the Overall Fantasy Standings
