You’ve been waiting for it…we now have all the results for the Zolder WC, Diegem Superprestige, and last two GVA Trofee races tallied and triple-checked by a big five accountant (my five fingers). Sorry for the delay getting the standings up – implementing the 80% rule, then DQing riders with the 34mm tires took a while… So let’s dig right into it:
There should be no surprise that our resident Pro Cyclocross Rumors and Rumblings author Kat Statman has taken the early lead. Kat has after all, taken over the column from Jacob Sisson, who also ran the previous incarnation of fantasy cyclocross. Kat’s lead shows that all his pro cyclocross research is paying off, and his humbly-named team, Team Awesome, leads with 864 points. (Want to lead our fantasy league next year? Grab a wrench and join the CXM pit crew and get in the know.) Kat’s team is not far off the front however, as ScottyH’s MTV team, with 860 points, sits in Kat’s draft, while Jeff Hick’s Team Zoom remains in the hunt with 846 points.
Don’t get too comfortable though, as I’m sitting in fifth place…just waiting to attack. Perennial CXM fantasy sandbagger Mike Davis sits in sixth, with CXM contributor Chris Bagg in eighth, and a real cyclocross pro, Brian Matter, winning Fantasy UCI points, with a top ten standing. Wait, he was in some of those races…and may have impacted the outcome of them. Should that be allowed? Hmm.
The most common picks this season are Sven Nys and Kevin Pauwels for the men, and Marianne Vos and Katie Compton for the women. With so many similar top picks, the competition will really come down to the lower-ranked riders breaking the many ties (as by design).
