PORTLAND, OREGON—Oregon’s Carl Decker (Giant) has grabbed a hat trick of wins so far this season in the Elite men’s category of the 2013 Cross Crusade. Decker has three wins in three chances, the latest coming Sunday on the Heron Lakes course at Portland International Raceway.

The Team S&M les Femmes duo of Beth Ann Orton and Alice Pennington knocked Serena Bishop Gordon (All Access), winner of series races #1 and #2, down to third place this week, with Orton taking the win and Pennington grabbing second.

The sun eventually burned through a foggy morning on the mostly flat course sandwiched between a golf course to the north and the PIR auto racetrack to the south. The Heron Lakes course was put through its paces Sunday, with the proximity to downtown Portland and the temperate fall day teaming up to draw 1,372 competitors to the third of nine series races.

Decker kept his perfect record so far by finishing 12 seconds ahead of Speedvagen’s Brennan Wodtli. Donadl Reeb came in another six seconds alter to round out the men’s elite podium.

Orton grabbed her first win of the season by finishing 10 seconds ahead of her teammate, Pennington. Bishop Gordon finished more than half a minute down for third.

The Cross Crusade will continue next weekend with the Halloween doubleheader on the Deschutes Brewery course in Bend. Sunday is the traditional costume race. The series returns to the Portland area on November 3 for race #6 at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
