The Men’s 11-12 race began with Thompson and Wesley Haggstrom (Evolution Jr. Devo Team) at the front of the race. Thompson was eventually able to get off the front on the technically challenging course by using the skills he has been working on. He stayed off the front for the rest of the three lap race to win the Stars-and-Stripes jersey.

Riding alone at the front was not necessarily what Thompson expected, but in ‘cross, things rarely go to plan. When asked if he expected to be alone, he said, “Not really actually. I thought that it was going to be a group coming around the first lap, but apparently not.”
