Reigning Czech Cyclocross Champions Zdenek Stybar (Telenet –  Fidea Cycling Team) and Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) took wins in the seventh World Cup stop of the season, in Roubaix, France. Stybar’s victory was his third of the season, while Nash took home the first World Cup victory of her career in only her second career World Cup start.

Katerina Nash took the first World Cup of her quickly exploding career, holding off a determined Hanka Kupfernagel (Itera – Stevens) and World Champion Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit). Vos looked to be steaming away to another World Cup victory before Nash and Kupfernagel teamed up to track down the reigning World Champ. From there, the two shed the woman they worked so hard to chase down, and the race was down to two. Nash used the final lap to slip away from Kupfernagel and sew up the biggest win of her career. Nash further bolstered her credentials as a strong World Championship favorite, where she’ll have home turf advantage in Tabor, Czech Republic.

American national champ Katie Compton, who led the World Cup standings coming into Roubaix, missed the start due to the leg cramp issues that have plagued her career. The bye drops Compton to third in the overall standings, as Van den Brand now holds the lead with Marianne Vos in second.

Zdenek Stybar profited from strong bike riding and a little help from his teammates, en route to his third World Cup victory of the season. Stybar and his Telenet – Fidea teammate Bart Wellens attacked a large leading group containing World Champion Neils Albert (BKCP – Powerplus), Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet – Colnag0), Klaas Vantornout (Sunweb – Revor), Erwin Vervecken (Revor – Baboco), Gerben De Knegt (Rabobank) and Steve Chainel (BBox – Bouyges Telecom) and quickly exerted their advantage. Behind, only Nys, Vantornout and Vervecken could respond, and by that point, Stybar had emerged on his own. His work done, Wellens faded back to the chasing three, content that Stybar’s gap was unassailable. As the chase group crossed the line for one to go, Vantornout sprung away on the attack and managed to build enough of a gap to hold on for second. Nys rolled across for third. With his win, Stybar assumes the UCI World Cup lead with only one round left to race.
