The final race of the European cyclocross season, Cyclocross Masters, was more spectacle than race, with World Champion Sven Nys “winning” ahead of Belgian Champion Klaas Vantornout and World Cup Champion Niels Albert on a night course where, according to Cyclocross Magazine’s correspondent and racer Christine Vardaros, “the riders tackled manmade bridges, washboards, ramps, curbs, and logs while weaving in and out of sand-covered playgrounds.”

But don’t just take her word for it. Belgian racer Jan Denuwelaere, who we last covered with his spectacular finish-line crash with Zdenek Stybar at GVA Essen, strapped a camera onto his bike to bring us the opening laps of this ‘cross celebration. Watch Denuwelaere navigate this ‘urban-cross’ course behind the legend himself, Sven Nys, to get a glimpse of what it’s like to chase the best in the world. Keep an eye out for the Stars and Stripes of US champion Jonathan Page, as well!
