We recently posted about the Horizon Fitness Racing Team’s goals for 2010/11. To help them achieve this, they have added a new member to their squad. Read below for details.

Horizon Fitness Racing Team has added Claire Thomas to its roster for 2010 and 2011. Claire, who will be riding for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, has been added to the squad with immediate effect.

“Claire’s another quality British rider, who’s been out in Europe competing at a high level as an individual. I think she’ll flourish in a team situation and she brings another mature head to our young squad” said team manager Stefan Wyman. He continued, “We were lucky enough to have Claire ride with us in the Dwaars Door de Westhoek earlier this season and she was fantastic. She really took the opportunity with both hands and showed us exactly what she’s capable of. She adds firepower to our squad for the hills, which really complements our existing riders.”

Claire, who lives in Belgium, has been competing in the Wieletrofee Vlaanderen, along with several major races for the Scottish National Team as they prepare for the Commonwealth Games.  “I’m really happy to have the chance to ride for Horizon Fitness and I’m confident I’ll be a strong addition to the squad. It’s my first major team and I’m really looking forward to taking on big races in Europe as part of a structured team during 2011,” said Claire.

“My season isn’t finished yet as I’ll be going to Delhi in a couple of weeks after putting in some final training both in Belgium and the UK.  The Games will be a great race, and it’s fantastic to have several of my new teammates out there with me.

“Having got my team kit on Friday, I managed to compete in my first race for Horizon Fitness on Saturday. It felt good to be in the team colors, and 16th place wasn’t bad. It wasn’t a finish for me, but the race went very well and is good preparation for October.”

There are 8 gold medals up for grabs at the championship for women (6 on the track, and 2 road events).  The Games are in early October with the road race being held on 10 October.  Claire will be riding the Women’s Road Race.
