The US Gran Prix of Cyclocross is looking to bring ’cross to the masses. And this video doesn't hurt!
Are you ready for ’cross? We sure are, and one of the things we love most about the lead-up into the season are the fantastic videos that begin to surface. Like the one following the jump, which is getting us pumped for the USGP of Cyclocross. Look for some big name interviews, a couple of bobbles and a whole lot of that beautiful mud! …continue reading: USGP of Cyclocross Promo Video
Short Film Airing Today Only– Dario Pegoretti and the Smell of Steel
August 27th, 2010 Filed Under cyclocross news, video
Rapha in conjunction with Ridley Scott Associates releases their third collaborative short film in a three-part series today. Each film airs online for one day only.
The last two weeks brought us artistic interpretations on the careers of Johan Museeuw and Sean Kelly. Today the focus shifts to Italian steel framebuilding icon Dario Pegoretti. The unconventional portrait, directed by Ben Ingham, offers a look into the workshop – and mind – of one of cycling’s living legends. Maybe you need to be a bike dork to appreciate the flick, but apparently we fit that bill, and do. Take a coffee break and check it out here on the Rapha website
Can I Go Riding?
August 22nd, 2010 Filed Under video
It’s that time of year again. Time to start cashing in on all those trips to the mall with your partner, all those times you got up in the middle of the night to take care of the baby. Time to start pulling out every excuse in the book to get out on your bike. Time, in fact, to have conversations that will probably go something like this… (Warning: Video after jump not safe for children!)

Rapha and Ridley Scott Productions Launch New Bike-Themed Fridays Film Series
August 13th, 2010 Filed Under cyclocross news, video
British cycling clothing manufacturer Rapha has teamed up with Ridley Scott Associates (think Bladerunner and other visually sumptuous productions) to produce a series of three cycling films. The films will each air on the Rapha Web site for one Friday only, with the first, A Throw of the Dice, broadcasting today.
A Throw of the Dice is a reflection on Johan Museeuw, the “Lion of Flanders,” and his epic battles – and serious battle wounds suffered – at Paris Roubaix. The film certainly has its non-linear and experimental elements, making it more along the lines of La Course en Tête than, for example, American Flyers. …continue reading: Rapha and Ridley Scott Productions Launch New Bike-Themed Fridays Film Series

Bike Hutt Offers July Cyclocross Series – in New Zealand
July 11th, 2010 Filed Under video
The Independence Day Cyclocross Classic kicked of the Bike Hutt’s July ‘cross series last weekend, the first of four races put on by Go Home Yanqui Promotions. As the organization’s name implies, unfortunately for those of us Stateside, the series isn’t on US soil, but instead is put on by an American expat in New Zealand. As the video of the Classic (below) shows, it looks like a super-fun event and, although technically winter down there, the weather seems to be pretty darned mild. …continue reading: Bike Hutt Offers July Cyclocross Series – in New Zealand
Video: Ride, Run or None of the Above?
June 15th, 2010 Filed Under video
It’s an age-old debate among ’crossers: when to ride, when to run. The same section of a course will elicit a variety of approaches from different racers. The video below shows a third alternative. After unsuccessfully trying to ride one technical section and bogging down, with competitors scampering on past, one racer opts for Plan C. See the video after the jump. …continue reading: Video: Ride, Run or None of the Above?
Get Thee to DeKalb, Illinois, for the Gravel Metric
May 15th, 2010 Filed Under cyclocross news, video
If you’ll be anywhere near DeKalb, Illinois on Sunday, May 30th, the Gravel Metric looks too good to pass up. Although the promoters at North Central Cyclery claim that it’s a spirited ride rather than a race, the “62 miles of self-supported mayhem” should be fun. Besides, when was the last time that you went on a group ride with a hype-building video that was as good as the one below? …continue reading: Get Thee to DeKalb, Illinois, for the Gravel Metric
Halfway Through the Offseason, Cyclocross Videos to Keep Our Focus
May 1st, 2010 Filed Under video
I’ll cut to the chase here – it’s been way too long since the last ‘cross race. By my rough (U.S.-season-based) calculations, we’re just about at the midpoint of the “offseason.” Are you bored with your road racing, MTB’ing or whatever the heck it is you people do to kill time during these doldrums? Me too. Luckily, there’s always the internet. And a whole boatload of ‘cross videos to keep us momentarily distracted.
Here are a few we’ve come across recently, which are well worth the watch: …continue reading: Halfway Through the Offseason, Cyclocross Videos to Keep Our Focus
Cyclocross Flavor at De Ronde and Cross Skills for Roadies – Updated Video
April 8th, 2010 Filed Under cyclocross news, editorial, video
Cyclocross season hasn’t been over for long now, and as we watch the best roadies duke it out in northern Europe, the oft-asked question is, “Why don’t more of these guys race cyclocross?” – Lars Boom, Marianne Vos, Steve Chainel, et al excluded. The obvious short answer is that the pay scales between road and cyclocross just don’t compare. However as recent races have loudly demonstrated, including an incredible mid-race bike swap by yesterday’s eventual Tour of Flanders winner Fabian Cancellara (see video below), these guys have the skills. Even more importantly, many of the “cyclocross-specific techniques” actually can play a crucial role in a road race when things get dicey. …continue reading: Cyclocross Flavor at De Ronde and Cross Skills for Roadies – Updated Video
Sven Nys Goes Moto
April 3rd, 2010 Filed Under press releases, video
A few days ago Sven mentioned a new endeavor called “project M” on his blog. Now however all is revealed: Sven Nys will ride motocross! As if Sven Nys, arguably the best technical ‘crosser in the business, needs any more work on his skills!
Sven Nys (33) just had another very good winter. The Landbouwkrediet-Colnago cyclocross rider became Belgian cyclocross champion, won the coveted GVA Trophy and took the bronze at the UCI World Cyclocross championship at Tabor. But that doesn’t mean Nys is resting on his laurels. A few weeks ago he started the preparation for a new mountainbiking season. And besides all the cycling commitments he has a new challenge: motocross, or project “M” as he called it up until now. …continue reading: Sven Nys Goes Moto

The Beer Gazelle Wraps Up His Season in Santa Rosa with Grace
March 31st, 2010 Filed Under cyclocross news, rider diary, video
Dan Bernards (aka Beer Gazelle – Built for Speed, Optimized for Beer) just wrapped up his first ‘cross season with the February 13th CX Santa Rosa series finale. It was the feeling of community that originally brought him into the fold. Although his local race scene includes the Santa Rosa and Livermore series in California, it was his first race, a Cross Crusade in Oregon, that stoked his fire. “Mostly, I love the people like me who know they aren’t going to place that well in the race but get out there, grind it out and compete regardless.”
by Dan Bernards, Beer Gazelle
All I know about my cyclocross season finale at Santa Rosa is that I was a winner. Handups aside, this race was easily my best performance, finishing out of the lower 30% of racers for the first time ever. …continue reading: The Beer Gazelle Wraps Up His Season in Santa Rosa with Grace
An Hour in Hell Video Provides a Great Snapshot of Cyclocross

Great to see an electronic media class putting their skills and available technology to a worthy, important cause – namely, making a cyclocross video! It shouldn’t be surprising that this well-done synopsis of the sport comes for the ‘cross hotbed of Oregon, with plenty of Cross Crusades footage as well as the elements of the “sideline vibe.” …continue reading: An Hour in Hell Video Provides a Great Snapshot of Cyclocross
