We’ll be providing live, interactive coverage of both the Elite Men’s and Women’s races, which are both stacked with the best-ever and most international field assembled in the US.

  • Cross Clash: Johnson Takes Powers in the Battle of the Titans on the Interbike Mini-Velodrome

Pre-race press conference, Powers in a black silk robe, Johnson in a bathrobe, reporters clamoring for quotes.

In the pursuit match done on a mini-velodrome with BMX bikes, cyclocross legends Tim Johnson and Jeremy Powers duked it out at high noon in a two-out-of-three match. Pre-race, the two contenders held a press conference (see picture) and weighed in: both racers were 162 pounds.

  • Interbike 2011: Parbo’s Pre-CrossVegas Scramble

by Josh Liberles I stopped by the Leopard Cycles booth at Interbike’s Outdoor Demo today, and talk inevitably turned to five-time Danish national champ Joachim Parbo, who has ridden Leopard’s flagship CX1 for the past several seasons. Parbo has raced extensively in the US in that time, and I reached out to him as we [...]

  • Interbike 2011: Vee Rubber Shows Off Eight New Cyclocross Tires

The Vee Rubber tires all have V designs in the name and tread. Here we have the Flying V, Race V, 7 and Rail cyclocross tires come in 700x35c and some in 40c. Interbike 2011. © Cyclocross Magazine

Vee Rubber might just be the oldest bicycle tires company you’ve never heard of, having made bicycle and motorcycle tires in Thailand since 1977. For cyclocrossers, that’s about to change, as the tire company showed off no fewer than eight tread patterns that it plans to release in 700x35c and 700x40c (for select models) sizes [...]

  • Interbike 2011: Cateye Inou GPS-Enabled Camera

The Cat Eye Inou quickly mounts to either helmets or handlebars.

by Josh Liberles Cateye is introducing its new Inou GPS-enabled camera this year, which allows users to shoot POV footage while they ride. The lightweight, 150g unit quickly straps to helmets or handlebars, and can be set to full video capture mode (at either 15 or 30 frames per second) or can take still photographs [...]

  • Meet the Builder, Racer & Pro Bike Profile: Ben Berden’s Stoemper Ronny

Berden took the win tonight on a Raleigh: who's he riding for this season?

by Josh Liberles Stoemper, a new Springfield, Oregon-based cyclocross frame maker, has an interesting philosophy for launching a new brand: Hire a really fast, heavily tattooed Belgian, put a Belgian-inspired bike with a Flemish name underneath him, and bring him over to the States to turn some heads. David Alvarez, the business side of Stoemper, [...]

  • Nittany Day Two: Euro Podium Invasion; Wyman and Van Den Bosch Take The Wins

Van Den Bosch, Field and Lindine on the podium Day 2 of Nittany Lions Cyclocross.

The first weekend of racing is over, and racers on the East Coast are feeling extremely tired after an incredibly muddy first weekend of cyclocross racing. The normally flat and fast course at Nittany was transformed into a muddy bog, and with the course running backwards on the non-UCI day two of racing, the racers started by almost immediately hitting a mud pit.

  • Jesse Anthony to Retire from Cyclocross

Jesse Anthony is racing his last race at Gloucester this season.

As many of you know, Jesse Anthony has announced that after Gloucester’s race this year, he will be retiring from cyclocross to pursue road racing as his main sport. After the summer he’s had, we can’t say that we blame him, as he’s had some amazing finishes and wins, winning Nature Valley overall to name just one. But we will miss him in cyclocross. Issue 15 will include a reflective piece from Anthony as well as a look back at his superlative cyclocross career.

  • Pro Bike Profile – Gabby Day’s Raleigh RXC Pro Carbon

    Gabby Day's Raleigh RXC Pro

With Gabby Day stateside for the start of her normally European-based season, it seemed like a perfect chance to get an up-close and personal look at her new Raleigh RXC Pro Carbon bikes with Ritchey and SRAM Red componentry. Since we’re the same size, it’s been a huge temptation for me, seeing the new carbon Raleigh frames with their stealth matte black appeal. Day is stylish on her own, and the new bikes perfectly compliment to her new team, The Chainstay and RENNER Clothing Team. Day is racing on the East Coast for the next month, from Baltimore to Vermont, and spent some time this week talking with me about her race plans, thoughts on the US, and thoughts on being a woman in racing.

  • Pro Cyclocross Rumors & Rumblings: Week of September 9th, 2011

And they're off! Here, 2010 Nittany Lion Cross kicked off UCI season. It might be a bit muddier this year. Anthony Skorochod/CyclingCaptured.com

The Euro’s are coming, the Euro’s are coming. Have we really made that much of an impact or is this just a fluke as everyone is thinking about the 2013 World Champs in Louisville? It is officially here though folks, ’cross season’s big kick-off tomorrow. So with that being said, where are the pros going this weekend and what are they up to if not racing? Jeremy Powers, Adam Myerson, Tom Van Den Bosche, Ian Field, Bryan Fawley, Luke and Jesse Keough, Justin Lindine and Weston Schempf are all lining up for the men at the 6th Annual Nittany Cross. And for the women we have Helen Wyman, Rebecca Wellons, Laura Van Gilder, Vicki Thomas and Gabby Day. Tim Johnson is out training with ’cross buddy and fellow New Englander Jesse Anthony; will we see Jesse hit the dirt much this year? Zdenek Stybar gets serious about ’cross, at least on Twitter. Ryan Trebon starts the competition early at the GP Molly Cameron. Telenet-Fidea looks towards the future with Bart Wellens and an all-new women’s team with Nikki Harris, Sophie de Boer, Nicole de Bie and Pavla Havlikova.

The Euro Invasion has hit the East Coast, and UK-based cyclocrosser Gabby Day has been staying with me in the days leading up to Nittany. This 26-year-old racer has never been to the US, and while maybe the Philadelphia airport wasn’t the best introduction to the country, I’ve been trying to show her some of the nicer parts. Granted, it’s been raining every day, which is going to mean a very muddy start to her US cyclocross season, but she’s taking in stride. With her first US race only a few days away, I wanted to ask her a few questions about her first impressions of the US and how it feels being a woman in the sport.

  • UPDATED: H&R Block Langley Cyclocross Classic And School Of Cross Clinic With Joe Sales’ Gallery

A dusty scene at the Langley Cyclocross Classic. Joe Sales

Clear blue sunny skies set the stage for what was to be the warmest and dustiest Langley Cyclocross Classic on record. Just over 100 participants took to the farm fields and forests of Aldor Acres for this early season ‘kick in the pants’ ’cross race. The course featured a long flat gravel section, barriers, a long run-up with a knee high log at the base of it (which only the top few were able to ride it), a single track descending section followed by some twisty turns through the trees in almost sand-like ground.

The Girl With The Cowbell Tattoo

I have two of the greatest sponsors in the world. Not only are they both 100% invested in my racing and incredibly enthusiastic about it, they provide services like keeping my bikes in great working condition, making sure that I’m eating enough and if I ask nicely, even doing my laundry.
