Here at PCR&R, we’ll try to keep those parties out of the news as much as possible, and instead focus on some other breaking news. Mafia Racing’s Jake Wells moves to Hudz/Subaru – what could be one of the best teams of 2010 and Cyclocross stars get moving on the fat tires.

While the glow of the 2010 cyclocross season has not yet faded, most of cyclocross’ elite have settled into their off-season road careers. None have settled in faster than Lars Boom, who achieved a major milestone in his road career at the Paris-Nice stage race. Jesse Anthony, too, has found his feet on the road scene after some bad luck in the last cyclocross season. Meanwhile, Erwin Vervecken and Tim Johnson have been doing some great work off the bike.

Lars Boom Wears Paris-Nice Yellow Jersey

Former Cyclocross World Champion Lars Boom showed off this weekend why he is also a former Dutch Road Race and Time Trial National Champion in this week’s French eight day stage race, Paris-Nice. The race, affectionately known as the Race to the Sun, for its tendency to start in less than desirable conditions and ride to more favorable weather, started on Sunday with an eight kilometer prologue time trial. Boom bested some of the world’s best time trialists – such as Astana’s double Tour de France champion Alberto Contador, American Levi Leipheimer, British prologue specialists Bradley Wiggins and David Millar, and a host of other champions – en route to the prologue victory. Thanks to his victory, Boom donned the yellow leader’s jersey, the green sprinter’s jersey, the polka-dotted climber’s jersey and the white young rider’s jersey. …continue reading: Pro Cyclocross Rumors and Rumblings – March 11, 2010

In a strange scheduling twist, this year’s British Cyclocross Championships came after Worlds. The unusually cold weather and snow that has hit much of Europe this winter, and was responsible for the original British championship’s postponement, was gone as just about all of the competitors opted to race bare-legged.

Helen Wyman (Kona-FSA Factory Team), who seemed to struggle in Tabor’s snow during the World Championship, found redemption and repeated as Women’s National Champion. The victory marks her fifth national title, matching Caroline Alexander’s record. Just the day before, Wyman rode an impressive race in Belgium to take fifth place in Krawatencross, just off the pace of the lead foursome. …continue reading: Wyman, Bibby Bring Home British Cyclocross Championships – Report, Full Results

Reigning US Masters 55+ National champion Kevin Hines wasn’t ready to hang up his cyclocross bike after Nationals in Bend, Oregon. Instead, he and Corner Cycle teammate Jonny Bold (current 45+ National champ) took off for Mol, Belgium to try their luck at going one bigger – they lined up for the Masters Worlds. To prepare for the event and get some extra racing, they planned to hit a local race in Holland, which they missed due to a scheduling conflict, as well as the Belgian National Championships, which they were pleasantly surprised to learn was open to non-Belgians.

Tabor, Czech Republic – Joyce Vanderbeken, former Belgian champion, perhaps summed up the day in Tabor for a lot of riders, “I was afraid.
