It’s not enough to be one of the best cyclocrossers in the country to make the dream of an appearance at Cyclocross Worlds a reality; many of the selected athletes need to pool their resources just to afford the trip. Luckily, their families and the supportive cyclocross community is quick to lend a hand. The Mid-Atlantic ‘cross scene is coming together to support Laura van Gilder with two fundraiser races, the Keough family organized an event to help their Luke cross the pond, the good folks of Delaware have rallied around local Junior Jeff Bahnson, and now Maureen Bruno Roy’s sponsors are giving her European campaign and trip to the World Championships an extra boost with a fundraiser raffle.

It seems like it was just yesterday that we found out Mo Bruno Roy was selected to represent the US at the Cyclocross World Championships. We had just returned from the National Championships in Bend, OR with absolutely ZERO done on the Christmas shopping lists and a huge backlog of clients (Mo) and experiments (Matt) awaiting us. We got word on December 18 that Mo made the team …continue reading: Fundraiser Raffle to Send Bruno Roy to Worlds

Meet the Lucky Dogs – U.S. Nationals Live Coverage Contest Winners

December 21st, 2009   Filed Under contests, cyclocross photos

To accompany Cyclocross Magazine’s recent live coverage of the U.S. National Championships, we ran two contests in conjunction with  Edge Composites and Raleigh USA that had ‘cross fans from coast-to-coast – and even abroad – clamoring for sweet prizes.

Edge Composites 65's Carbon Tubular Wheelset

Edge Composites 65's Carbon Tubular Wheelset

First was our wheel give away courtesy of Edge Composites. Edge helped to sponsor our live coverage and offered up a set of ultra-zoot Edge 65 carbon tubular cyclocross wheels to one lucky winner.

In order to take home the prize, participants needed to follow along with our play-by-play coverage and be ready to correctly answer a series of questions in our Cowbell forums. At the tail end of the Elite Men’s race, we asked participants to name three women and three men in the Elite races using Edge Composites products and to list which products that each uses. …continue reading: Meet the Lucky Dogs – U.S. Nationals Live Coverage Contest Winners

Whether you are in Bend or stayed home, even if you can’t contend for a National Championship, you can still win big with your friends at Cyclocross Magazine and the kind live coverage sponsors Raleigh, Edge Composites, Planet Bike and Blue Competition Cycles.

Edge Composites has put up an amazing prize: their 65’s, a $2399  carbon tubular wheelset, weighing a scant 1260 grams. These are the same wheels Planet Bike’s Jonathan Page rides. Tune in to our live coverage each day for more details on how to win these wheels.

For people attending Bend, we’ve got a Raleigh High Life singlespeed cyclocross frameset for the best contributor of photos and videos to our cowbell community site.  Best doesn’t mean most… don’t flood us with 100 photos. Quality counts, so get creative, shoot a few short videos, do a few quick interviews and/or snap some great photos.  Cyclocross is nothing without its community, and we’re here to highlight the community’s best content!

Hot tips: At the bottom of your “Settings” page in your cowbell profile, you’ll see an email address. You can just email photos or videos from your phone to that email address and they’ll upload directly!

Folks who couldn’t make it to Bend can still try to win the Raleigh frameset, but you have to be creative. Entertain us and our audience with something that ties into Nationals.

Times Are Tough: Green Michelin Mud Tires’ Value Falls with Stock Market

Guess the final price of this used pair of Green Michelin Mud cyclocross tires on eBay

Down just like the stock market: old green Michelin Mud cyclocross tires

Last week we featured a guessing game for the final value of an eBay auction for a pair of lightly used original green Michelin Mud cyclocross tires. When credit was still flowing freely last year and the Dow was at 12,458 in May 2008, a single NOS tire commanded $115.  And although this pair up for auction was used and featured the more fragile skinwalls, the average guess was still $75.52, with a high guess of $90. …continue reading: Times Are Tough: Green Michelin Mud Tires’ Value Falls with Stock Market

Cyclocross Poem of the Day: “The Hill”

We had a bunch of great entries to our ‘cross poetry contest and sadly didn’t have room to print all of them. We’re digging them out and publishing some of the entries that didn’t make it to print. First up is Seattle’s Vincent Mysliwiec’s entry that made us wince in pain (in a good way). …continue reading: Cyclocross Poem of the Day: “The Hill”

Guess the final price of this used pair of Green Michelin Mud cyclocross tires on eBay

Everyone wants to go green, but it’s not always easy to do. Last year, we highlighted two eBay auctions for the coveted original green Michelin Mud cyclocross tires. The single tire NOS auctions went for $66 and a whopping $115, plus shipping. Buying a box of these tires would have been a much better investment than putting your money in a case of wine, your 401k, or the most respected hedge fund at the time.

Well, an original skinwall set, albeit used is on eBay, ending on March 30th, and we’re gonna have our own pick ‘em contest, inspired by Jeremy Burlingame’s occasional guessing game on plusonelap. …continue reading: Going (Michelin) Green – Guess the Price Contest

Fantasy Cyclocross Finale – February 25, 2009

Cyclocross Magazine’s Fantasy Cyclocross League By Jake Sisson

After weeks of heated competition, it’s time to call time on the inaugural season of Cyclocross Magazine’s UCI Fantasy Cyclocross. No amount of manipulation worked out to actually win me this thing, so I figured it was best to actually present the legitimate final standings in all their glory. All in all, my team choked in the most critical of situations, falling from 3rd – with the promise of a prize tantalizingly close – to a lowly 9th, too far down the list for any sort of cheating to save me. So, here we go, the final honors. …continue reading: Fantasy Cyclocross Finale – February 25, 2009

Cyclocross Magazine’s Fantasy Cyclocross League By Jake Sisson

So we’ve reached the end of the road. The battles have been hard, and while hope has faded for some teams who got out to a hot start, hope has sprung anew for many teams who got a late start. Our leader heading into the final day, Montanacyclocross.com missed the first week of the competition, but overcame what could have been a 100 plus point deficit and turned it into a 100 plus point lead. So it comes down to one race, for all the glory. …continue reading: Fantasy Cyclocross Finale Preview – February 21, 2009
