But the last lap’s off-camber sections and stairs proved to be too much, and Decker stretched his gap into a winning margin with flawless riding over the technical features.

Page would roll in nine seconds in arrears, with Berden another 26 seconds back. Krugoff and Lindine would complete the top five, but behind, Nieters would roll through as the first candidate for the Raleigh contract.

Nieters owns a bike shop and receives support from Van Dessel Sports, and wasn’t sure after the race if he was going to accept the contract. The next racer in line? His teammate Jake Sitler.

July cyclocross? It’s not for everyone, but for everyone present, it was exactly what cyclocross is any other time of year: a spectacular show, and a lively party. Raleigh has continued to grow its summer cyclocross event, and for three straight years, its dealers and some fast racers have come to party. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2014.
