Patrick Gaudy, an Elite Belgian cyclocross rider aged 38, was killed Tuesday morning during an accident in training. According to Velritkrant, He was hit by a truck in Mont-Saint-Guibert and died immediately.

According to the same source, the Orne-Thyle had this to say about the accident: “It’s an unfortunate combination of circumstances that have to do with the blind spot of the truck and condition on the bike path.”

Last January, he finished on the podium at BK in Erpe-Mere in the “Elite without Contracts” category, and the year before, he took the silver at the 2013 Belgian National Championship in the same category.

Gaudy is well remembered for his recovery from another accident with a car back in 2012, where the doctors gave him little hope to return to athletics due to spinal fractures, and yet he was able to get himself back to riding and eventually race again.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to his friends and family.
