Sunday’s UCI C1 racing at the 2016 Trek CXC Cup was briefly a suspenseful case study in determining whether teamwork and strength in numbers could overcome one racer’s pure power.

Saturday’s display by Telenet-Fidea five teammates showed the Belgian team had the numbers, but with more than half the race left on Sunday, Wout van Aert put on an impressive display of strength to distance the Telenet-Fidea train.

Saturday’s winner Steve Chainel and Stephen Hyde took turns trying to break into the chasing group, and Hyde would finish fifth with Chainel in sixth.
