Many cyclocross fans didn’t quite get their Euro cyclocross fix with the wind-cancelled 2016 UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Koksijde.

However, there was great racing in Belgium over the weekend, with the UCI C1 GP Hasselt, part of the Soudal Classics series. The race was contested by American Elle Anderson, who finished with a strong third place (see the full GP Hasselt report and results here).

The women’s race started off strangely, with a clear false start by Jolien Verschueren, and an upset but patient Sanne Cant who was left waiting for the green light.

She eventually found the green light to bridge to Ellen Van Loy and then set off alone for a solo victory.

While some top racers skipped the Soudal Classic race to save their legs for Sunday’s scheduled Koksijde World Cup, Cant’s decision to contest the GP Hasselt certainly paid off, as she had the biggest UCI points haul of the weekend of any women racer since Hasselt was the only UCI C1 on the weekend.
