VERONA, WISCONSIN — The second race of the day was the women’s 55-59 and 60+ race, and while the course had warmed up slightly and the ruts had started to form, the course was still a challenge and racers were still only doing three laps for a 40 minute race. In the 55-59 race, Kathy Sarvary (Blue Steel Cyclery) took the win, and in the 60+, Diane Ostenso (Trek Midwest Team) was the champion.
Both races played out remarkably similar. In the 55-59 race, the holeshot was snatched by My Wife Inc. racer Patricia Kauffman. Sarvary then took an early lead, making time by riding the technical sections smoothly and accelerating when possible. She crashed three times throughout the race, once tangling up in the course tape, cutting her lead in half. However, short of a massive mechanical, nothing was keeping her from the win, and she sailed in for a solo victory. Seconds behind was Kauffman.
In the 60+ race, Ostenso took an early lead and never looked back, blazing her way through all but the top two in the 55-59 field. Jane Geisse (Spin) from Ohio took second.
