TRP Brakes EuroX Cyclocross Cantilever Brakes

We get a bunch of questions about bike setup and tech via email and our forums. Occasionally we’ll seek out answers direct from the manufacturer. Here’s one question from Dave Hutton we received recently.

I am currently a TRP Brakes EuroX user. I love the performance of the cyclocross brakes but I have a nerve problem in my hand from a neck injury I obtained playing football in high school and suffer from weakness and numbing in my fingers still. At times I find the spring tension of the TRP Brakes EuroX a bit stiff…there is a possible swap I could do with another brand’s springs on my TRPs?

Response from Lance Larrabee of TRP Brakes: …continue reading: Ask the Bike Geek: Spring Tension on TRP Euro-X Brakes

The Louisville USGP course is endangered by the stimulus package. by David Crimson

by Aaron Hawkins

Word spread quickly through the cycling channels here in Louisville that our beloved cyclocross grounds would be making way for more soccer fields and swing-sets.  The news first broke through our local cycling forums, and it has been the talk of the cycling community since it broke our hearts on Wednesday.

An article in Louisville’s local newspaper delivered the sad news that stimulus money will help to develop our park.  Yes, that may sound great, but the plan is to develop our park into more soccer fields, a dog park, playgrounds and picnic areas.  Cyclocross is being bumped from the very place that launched Louisville’s ‘cross scene, and we’re being bumped, rather dumped, into a reclaimed landfill down the street.  It’s a sad day where bikes are displaced for park features that can be found all over the city.  A suitable cyclocross facility is …continue reading: Louisville’s ‘Cross Course Under Siege…by Stimulus Package?

Nys rails at turn in Oostmalle

In a fitting end to the season, the season’s top two strongest riders battled for a victory in Oostmalle, Belgium in the final race of the GVA Trophy series. World Champ Niels Albert had promised before the race to do his best to extend his winning streak at the race to three-in-a-row, and quickly moved to the front on the first lap, and only the two Svens (Nys and Vanthourenhout) could keep pace.  Meanwhile, typical contenders Lars Boom, Klaas Vantornout and Bart Wellens had slow starts, all three sitting near 20th as the selection was made. Perhaps for the three it was just a parade?

Parade it was not for Albert, and as he kept up the pressure, …continue reading: Nys and Vos Take Season Finale at Sluitingsprijs Oostmalle – Updated: Photo Gallery

“Is this your first after-season party? Do you want a drink?” While I watched his lips move, I was thinking, “Who is this guy? Am I supposed to know him? He does look familiar and he is standing next to Stybar whom thankfully I do recognize, so maybe he is a bike racer.  But without jersey and helmet, they all look alike.”  As he walks away to get drinks, I ask his female companion (road racer Angela Van der Velde) his name. It turns out to be Rob Peeters of Landbouwkrediet-Colnago. Funny how everyone looks so different …continue reading: A Last Race, Party and Many Goodbyes – An Oostmalle Report by Christine Vardaros – Updated: Photo Gallery

Cyclocross Magazine’s Fantasy Cyclocross League By Jake Sisson

After weeks of heated competition, it’s time to call time on the inaugural season of Cyclocross Magazine’s UCI Fantasy Cyclocross. No amount of manipulation worked out to actually win me this thing, so I figured it was best to actually present the legitimate final standings in all their glory. All in all, my team choked in the most critical of situations, falling from 3rd – with the promise of a prize tantalizingly close – to a lowly 9th, too far down the list for any sort of cheating to save me. So, here we go, the final honors. …continue reading: Fantasy Cyclocross Finale – February 25, 2009

After failing at his stated goal to win the world title this year in Hoogerheide, the Dutch rider is moving on and said after racing in Heerlen a week ago that he’s embarking on a new chapter of his career and will focus on the spring classics in 2010.

Boom alluded to this change …continue reading: Lars Boom to Skip 2010 Worlds

Sven Nys Wins in Oostmalle, Takes Home GvA Trophy – Brief Report

February 22nd, 2009   Filed Under cyclocross news, euro-file, race results

A last lap crash by World Champion Niels Albert (BKCP-Powerplus) worked to the advantage of Belgian Champion Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet-Colnago) and allowed Nys to cruise home to victory in the final race of the season. Nys and Albert were locked in a two up battled that looked to come down to a sprint finish before Albert’s front wheel slipped out in a sandy right hand corner. Albert’s mishap cost him his third straight victory in Oostmalle, clearly a crushing blow for the young Belgian who was shaken in the moments following the end of the race. Albert would hold on for second, with Sunweb-Projob’s Sven Vanthourenhout filling out the podium. The Fidea duo of Kevin Pauwels and Bart Wellens were fourth and fifth, respectively. …continue reading: Sven Nys Wins in Oostmalle, Takes Home GvA Trophy – Brief Report

Cyclocross Magazine’s Fantasy Cyclocross League By Jake Sisson

So we’ve reached the end of the road. The battles have been hard, and while hope has faded for some teams who got out to a hot start, hope has sprung anew for many teams who got a late start. Our leader heading into the final day, Montanacyclocross.com missed the first week of the competition, but overcame what could have been a 100 plus point deficit and turned it into a 100 plus point lead. So it comes down to one race, for all the glory. …continue reading: Fantasy Cyclocross Finale Preview – February 21, 2009
