Azencross' sprint finish on the big screen leaves one fan in disbelief. By Christine Vardaros

December 30, 2008. Today I awoke in a real panic. I thought it was race day. When the races are so close together it is hard to keep track of what day it is. Memories all string together to form one big timeless blur.

Just as I was getting out of bed to grab my slippers, book and head downstairs to look at a calendar for some solace, one of Jonas’ eyes popped open with a simultaneous puckering of the lips in anticipation of his morning kiss. Instead he was handed an impromptu game of “20 Questions.” “Is it race day today? What day is it? What date is it? Are you sure I raced yesterday? But I was talking to my coach while having coffee. Oh, HE was having coffee in California. Are you sure we don’t have to leave for Luxembourg right now? Don’t you think we should leave now since we can only drive 90 kph due to the smog alert? Why am I so confused?” …continue reading: 20 Questions, Smack Talk and Hidden Races – A Column by Christine Vadaros

Frozen whoopdees are fun if you don't eat it. by Sue Butler

The Azencross at Loenhout was a completely different race than last year. It was frozen tundra this year, with no long muddy run or muddy corners. This year, the biggest obstacle were icy corners, frozen ruts and in my case, myself and crashed-out girls on the whoopdee’s.

The legs were back and I had a decent start, considering I was a bet apprehensive of the long tarmac and the first sharp left turn. The Euro starts always make me a bit nervous because they are sketchy, and even the girl that will place 50th is trying to get to the turn first. …continue reading: Frozen Whoopdees Are Not For Eating – An Azencross Report by Sue Butler

Fans were everwhere. If I had one Christmas wish it would be that every cyclocross fan could see an event held at the Zolder venue. It is really something special. The event is held on a Formula 1 race track and there are always no less than 30,000 spectators covering the whole venue like a thick blanket, even throughout the tiered hillside. …continue reading: A Special World Cup – Zolder Report by Christine Vardaros

Cyclocross Magazine’s Fantasy Cyclocross League By Jake Sisson

As we gear up for the biggest week of the season for Fantasy Cyclocross, let’s reflect on the big week that just passed. If you happened to have this week’s all-star team (Nys, Stybar, Vantornout, Al, Pauwels, Walsleben, Kupfernagel, Ferrier-Bruneau, Compton, Vos and Lloyd), you’d have set a game record 538 points in week to week scoring. …continue reading: Fantasy Cyclocross Update – December 28, 2008

Houghton Mifflin’s Dictionary defines a carpetbagger as “An outsider…who presumptuously seeks a position or success in a new locality.”

Some think the popular Portland racer Sue Butler (Monavie-Cannondale.com) fits this definition, as she’s traveled to Europe battling at World Cups. But her husband Tim has taken carpetbagging to a new level. See our report from Sue below.

Corn Field ‘Cross – Belgian Style

by Sue Butler

There is an abundance of coverage for the pro men’s cyclocross racing in Europe. There’s a decent amount for the elite women and U23 and juniors. But have you ever wondered what the ‘normal’ person does in Belgium? Does the average Joe race ‘cross? Is there a Cross Crusade in Belgium? I had never really had to answer that question …continue reading: Carpetbagging in Belgium – A Report by Sue Butler
